VEGF Regulates Gene Expression of Matrix Factors During Cervical Remodeling in Rodents

Cervical remodeling is a physiological inflammatory process regulated by various factors including vascular factors. We have previously shown that VEGF regulates multiple genes involved in cervical remodeling using DNA microarray analysis, such as growth factors, inflammatory factors, neuronal factors and matrix proteins. Among the matrix factors regulated by VEGF are biglycan, collagen type I, II, IV and V, decorin, fibronectin and others. Here, we validate the DNA microarray data using real time PCR and found that in the gene expression of a selected number of genes were down‐regulated such as decorin. We conclude that VEGF plays a role in cervical remodeling by regulating various genes including matrix factors.
