We have developed an automated high‐throughput screen for conditions and extracts that promote double strand break repair in vitro. The screen is based on the facile transformation and metabolic properties of Acinetobacter baylii . The extracts are derived from the very radiation‐resistant bacterium Deinococcus radiodurans , as well as from some E. coli strains that have evolved resistance to irradiation. Results of the screen will be presented.
