Recently, international marriages have been rapidly increasing in Korea. This study was to investigate the association between smoking and alcohol drinking behaviors, and nutrient intakes for Vietnamese wives in Korea. Subjects were recruited from medical examination centers in Korea. The proportions of smokers and alcohol drinkers were 14.6% and 20.5%, which was higher than the prevalence of smokers of Korean females in 20's (3.5%) from The Third Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Almost all smokers were alcohol drinkers. Smokers and alcohol drinkers showed shorter lengths of residence in Korea than non‐smokers. The levels of fasting blood glucose and atherogenic index were higher in smokers and in alcohol drinkers. Smokers had lower levels of HDL‐cholesterol and higher vitamin A and folate intakes compared to non‐smokers and non‐drinkers. Alcohol drinkers had greater intakes of potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B 6 , and folate than non‐alcohol drinkers. In conclusion, smoking and alcohol drinking seemed to have effects on blood profiles such as fasting blood glucose, atherogenic index, and HDL‐cholesterol. Further investigation is needed to identify relation between smoking and drinking, and nutrition outcomes in a follow‐up study.
