High Resolution SSO Tissue Typing by Luminex Technology in Bone Marrow (HSC) Allotransplant Recipients

Bone marrow or HSC transplantation requires stringent exploration of HLA tissue type to detect histoincompatibility between potential donor and recipient. This study investigates the value of using Luminex® technologies with LABType® SSO HD from One Lambda to efficiently determine high resolution tissue type. SSO by Luminex® is being compared with SSP to determine the relative level of resolution. Current results suggest that a combination of the two is requisite to achieve HLA‐A, ‐B, ‐C, and ‐D allele specific typing. SSO is preferable for multiple typings, whereas SSP is applicable for individual specimens. Virtual typing based on archival high resolution data for our patient population suggests that the SSO‐Luminex method would yield concordant results with SSP. Therefore, the ability to HLA type multiple (i.e., up to 16) samples simultaneously renders SSO‐Luminex superior to SSP, especially for family studies, in bone marrow or HSC allotransplantation.
