This controlled human clinical trial has examined the efficacy of orally consumed Lycium barbarum fruit (goji) as a standardized juice (GoChi™) in healthy adults (average age = 35) on waist circumference after consuming 120 ml daily for 14 days. All subjects were required to engage in a daily 15‐minute walk and to curtail caloric intake after 7 PM during the test period. The daily GoChi dose was divided as 90 ml in the morning and 30 ml taken before retiring. Average waist circumference in the GoChi group (N = 14) on day 15 was reduced significantly by 5.54 cm from day 1. All other parametric data (body weight and others) were not different between groups or between day 1 and day 15 for either group. Additional subjective indications rated 0–5 were significantly different between day 1 and day 15 in the GoChi group in increased ratings for athletic performance, sleep quality, ease of awakening, stamina/endurance and calmness. GoChi also significantly reduced fatigue, tiredness, weakness, procrastination, headache, depression, daydreams, shortness of breath, backache, stiff shoulder, cold hands and feet. In contrast, the placebo group (N = 14) showed no significant changes in any parameters including subjective indications. These results indicate that daily consumption of GoChi for 14 days reduces waist circumference and increases general well‐being, improves neurological performance and muscular skeletal functions.
