To investigate the relationship between time spent in sedentary activity and overweight/obesity and hyperlipoidemia among middle‐aged crowd, a random selected sample of 4613 adults aged 30‐59 were studied. The analysis of different levels of sedentary time and overweight/obesity and hyperlipoidemia were undertaken. Compared with people whose sedentary time was less than 1 hour/day, there was a significant increased relative risk of overweight/obesity and hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia (p<0.05). The risk of being obese, or hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia increased by 19%, 38%, and 92% respectively, with sedentary time ≥ 4 hrs/d, compared with that < 1 hr/d. There was a strong positive association of different levels of inactivity and overweight/obesity and hyperlipoidemia (P<0.05). Increased inactivity was more significantly linked with hyperlipoidemia than overweight/obesity.
