High‐grade glial tumors are sporadically occurring and associated with high mortality due to their ability to invade surrounding tissue. Glioma cells digest the extracellular matrix (ECM) by secretion of matrix metalloproteases; in particular MMP‐2 is central to the aggressive invasiveness. Recently extracellular HSP90á has been linked to MMP2 activity and invasiveness in fibrosarcoma cells. We demonstrate the influence and mechanism of extracellular HSP90 on MMP2 activation and other novel extracellular interactions for HSP90 in glioma cells. Our results provide a new potential mechanism by which glioma invasiveness could be regulated.
