This study was conducted to evaluate the clinical outcome of malva nut drink in type 2 diabetic patients. Sixty‐three subjects were randomly divided into the experimental (n = 32) and the controlled (n = 31) groups. The experimental group was advised about malva nut drink 240 ml after meal 3 times a day for 8 weeks. The test regarding of 24‐hour recall questionnaire were done by the both groups for food intake assessment. Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) was determined at weeks 0, 4, 8; serum lipids and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) at week 0 and 8. After the intervention, the total energy intake, the calories from carbohydrate, FPG, HbA1c decreased significantly, compared with baseline (p < 0.001, p = 0.023, p = 0.004 and p < 0.001 respectively) and less than those of the controlled group (p = 0.020, p = 0.008, p = 0.005 and p = 0.001 respectively). Total cholesterol and low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were less than those of the controlled group significantly (p = 0.004 and p = 0.008 respectively). In addition, amount of dietary fiber intake increased significantly (p<0.001) and higher than that of the controlled group (p<0.001). The results showed that malva nut drink may help to reduce serum glucose and lipids in type 2 diabetic patients.
