OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and its receptor in tubal pregnant decidual tissue and to explore their effects on tubal pregnancy. METHODS: To detect the mRNA expression of EGF in tubal pregnant decidual tissue, the normal oviductal tissue and the early pregnant human endometrial decidual tissue with semiquantitative reverse transcriptase‐polymerase chain reaction technique. At the same time, to detect the expression of EGFR in tubal pregnant decidual tissue, the normal oviductal tissue and the early pregnant human endometrial decidual tissue with immuno‐histochemistry technique. RESULTS: The mRNA expression of EGF was significantly higher in tubal pregnant decidual tissue compared with the normal oviductal tissue, but lower than that in early pregnant human endometrial decidual tissue. The differences were significant (P<0.05). The positive expression of EGFR in tubal pregnant decidual tissue was stronger than that in the normal human oviduct tissue, but was weaker than that in the early pregnant human endometrial decidual tissue. The differences were significant (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The higher expression of EGF and its receptor may be a remarkable factor responsible for the embryo implantation in the oviduct.
