Research investigators developed a novel Prodosome technology‐based PL425 PEC phytonutrient‐fortified electrolyte formulation and assessed its potential contribution in boosting cellular and metabolic energy homeostasis. Moreover, neuromuscular competence, physiological cellular and organ functions, and broad‐spectrum safety were assessed. Sea water‐derived electrolytes such as sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, phosphorous, and magnesium, along with vitamin C, enriched in structurally diverse research‐affirmed phytonutrients including polyphenolic bioflavonoids, anthocyanins, saccharides, sulforaphanes, carotenoids and exotic spices, were encapsulated in the proprietary Prodosome SK713 SLP absorption technology, enabling rapid synchronized absorption into the blood. The objective was to determine whether this novel formulation will maintain important biological functions including metabolic, cellular, and energy homeostasis, pH equilibration, and muscular integrity, especially in well‐trained athletes. A pilot study was conducted in seven athlete cyclists (age = 24‐56 years) over a period of two consecutive weeks, however, one dropped out due to scheduling conflict. An average of 16.7% increase in power output was observed. Interestingly, no significant increases in heart rate were observed, demonstrating that the PL425 PEC strengthened cardiovascular output. Moreover, the PL425 PEC inhibited anaerobic/hypoxic‐induced health consequences as demonstrated by enhanced energy metabolism, ATP production, and nitric oxide production, and a more rapid symptom‐free recovery from workout exhaustion. No adverse events were reported. Further studies to unveil the molecular mechanisms are in progress.
