Glioblastoma Multiforme or Grade4 Astrocytoma is a very malignant form of cancer with a very poor survival rate. We are searching for an effective biomarker and therapeutic drugs for this cancer. Our biomarker discovery strategies include SELDI and Real Time PCR studies and we tested C6 Ceramide,TRAIL and Tyrosine kinase inhibitors on the human Astrocytoma cell lines. Our proteomics studies with SELDI and gene expression studies with Real Time PCR showed differentially expressed proteins and genes in these Astrocytoma cell lines when compared to normal Astrocyte cell lines. All the above mentioned drugs tested induced cell death in the Astrocytoma cells.
