Biological aging score of Healthy People in the North Area of China

Objective Investigated the candidate aging biomarkers and sought to establish biological aging score (BAS) of healthy people in North China. Methods We performed a cross‐sectional study of 852 healthy subjects from three North China cities (Shenyang, Dalian and Beijing) and all subjects were divided into 4 groups based on the chronological age (≤ 44(n=205); 45~59 (n=241); 60~74(n=254); ≥ 75(n=152). 134 variables were examined, including physiologic variables (SBP, PP et); biochemical variables (TC, UN, PLT et); cardiac and vascular structure and function variables (AD, IMT, EDV et). Linear regression and redundant analysis were used to assess BAS. Results Out of 134 variables examined, ten variables were selected as biomarkers of biological aging. They included PP (pulse pressure), EDV (carotid artery end‐diastolic velocity), E/A (the ration of mitral valve E to A), CYSC (serum cystatin C), TC (total cholesterol), HCT (hematocrit), ALB (serum albumin), PRALB (prealbumin), IL‐6 (interlukine‐6) and ESR (serum estradiol). These variables were then submitted into a factor analysis, and the equation for assessing one's BAS was constructed according to the first factor score. (BAS = 67.8 + 0.30PP (mmHg) +16.9 Cystatin C(mg/L)–5.1 E/A–0.1ESR (pg/ml) – 0.6ALB (g/L + 2.7TC (mmol/L)–30.1PRALB (g/L)+0.5IL‐6 (mmol/L)+0.1HCT(%)– 0.3EDV(mm/S). Individual BAS showed a high cross‐sectional stability of age‐related changes (r=0.80, P < 0.01). Conclusion Positive relationship between BAS and chronological age could reflect course of aging in the North China healthy people.
