Darwin and Design — America's New Battle over Evolution

Science education in the United States is facing a challenge from “intelligent design,” an anti‐evolution movement carefully formulated to appear non‐religious and scientific in character. Appearances, however, can be deceiving. Close examination shows the religious roots of this movement, and its scientific arguments collapse upon inspection. I will examine the nature of this movement, and suggest strategies by which the scientific community can act to uphold the integrity of science education.
