Human immunodeficiency virus infection is a global health problem; antiretroviral therapy is associated with metabolic complications. We analyzed lipid profile in 10 children HIV+, between 3 and 10 years of age, with antiretroviral treatment attended in the Paroissien Hospital. Body weight (Bw, kg) and Height (H, m), were determined; Bw/H ratio was calculated. Serum cholesterol (CT), HDL and LDL, Triglycerides (TG) were determined (mg/dL); LDL was calculated (Friedwald equation) (mg/dL). Apolipoproteins A‐I and B (ApoA‐I and ApoB) were measured by quantitative radial inmunodiffussion. (Diffuplate, Biocientífica SA) (mg/dL) and ApoA‐I/ApoB ratio(A‐I/B) was calculated. Results expressed as X±S.D were: CT: 187.1±38.6; HDL:32.3±2.7;LDL:137.3±35.7; TG:87.3±34.1;ApoA‐I:219.5±42.4; ApoB: 119.1±41.4; ApoA‐I/ApoB:1.97±0.55.The desirable values: CT:<170; HDL: >35; LDL< 130; TG:120–150; ApoA‐I: 109.6–149.4; ApoB: 63.5‐102.7; ApoA‐I/ApoB:1.2–2.2. Only one child presents overweight (Bw/H: 133.4). The 50% of the patients presents CT l>200; 80% presents HDL < 35 and 60% LDL > 130 and Apo B over the reference range. Only 10% of children presents TG > 150. These preliminary data, in agreement with study performed in adult patients with antiretroviral therapy, show some alterations in the lipid profile; these findings point out to these children with high risk to suffer future coronary disease. These results show the usefulness of these biochemistry markers and the importance of the nutritional support, linked with the antirretroviral treatment. Supported by UBA(B060)
