The Arabian Gulf catfish elaborates gel‐like proteinacious secretions when threatened or injured. It was established that preparations from the skin of the catfish can lead to accelerated wound healing and healing of diabetic foot ulcers. The preparations contain highly active proteins and lipids, including a group of enzymes, growth factors, high levels of arachidonic acid and it,s metabolites, cholesterol and chlesterol esters, components that act on blood vessels, components that act on blood cells and factors that cause vascular permeabilty. The preparations which were found to cure 80% of treated back pain patients, sciatica, some forms of paralysis, facial palsy and demyelination, were found to have noticeable effecs on a spastic case resulting from spinal chord injury. Both lipids and proteins seem to play important roles in the healing proceses. Such results provide new venues in understanding and curing a number of neurological problems.
