Danitol, developed by the Chevron Chemical Co., was evaluated for efficacy in controlling SSM in Aug on a plantation of 8 yr old fraser firs in Ashe County. Using a hand pump sprayer to the point of run-off, 3 application rates were applied and Orthene was used as a standard. A randomized block design was used with 5 blocks of 25 trees selected for each treatment and the controls. Prespray and 10 d postspray counts were made of all living eggs and motile SSM on 3 randomly selected 10 cm twigs taken from different trees within each block.
