We present and discuss the various existing methods to measure social networks in a quantitative manner. We cover popular approaches, such as, snowball sampling, networks within sample, network within census, peer reporting, and new approaches, such as, sample within sample and illustrate some of the methods using detailed network data from three villages in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra (India).
