This article aims to analyze the main motives of using a bicycle as sustainable public transport. Consider the prerequisites for the introduction of “smart transport” for the territory of Saransk. More than 1000 citizens took part in the survey. The majority of respondents stated low satisfaction with the bicycle infrastructure, but are interested in the implementation of the “smart bike” system in the vicinity of the city. The analysis provides an understanding that residents are concerned about environmental issues, affordable transport and personal health. That speaks about the high potential of development of this system in the city of Saransk.
