In the present study geopolymers were prepared using fayalite slag (iron-silicate fines) from copper producing plant (Aurubis Bulgaria AD). The influence of the different concentrations of alkali activator on properties and structure was examined. The prepared geopolymers were characterized by maximal compressive strength of about 27 MPa. The microstructural examination revealed that only small amount of the precursor reacted, but certain amount of ferric iron (Fe 3+ ) participate in the structure of newly formed geopolymer gel.
