Zinc borate crystalline hydrate of the composition 2ZnO·3B2O3·3,5H2O was obtained by the interaction of zinc oxide and boric acid in the presence of a seed. The composition of the obtained crystalhydrate of zinc borate was confirmed using IR spectroscopy and gravimetric analysis. It is shown at what temperatures the obtained zinc borate crystalline hydrate loses crystallization water and in what quantity. To evaluate the antipyretic properties, the obtained zinc borate crystalline hydrate was introduced into the polyvinylchloride plastic compound grade NGP30-32, replacing industrial zinc borate in the formulation. It was found that polyvinylchloride plastic containing the obtained zinc borate crystalline hydrate is not inferior in its thermal, fire-resistant and physic mechanical characteristics to a compound containing industrial zinc borate. At the same time, the main indicators of polyvinylchloride plastic containing laboratory zinc borate crystalline hydrate complies with the requirements for fireproof plastic compounds.
