This article describes the development of one high-performance safety controller for excavators that fulfils SIL2 level complied with IEC 61508 and PL d, Cat.3 level complied with EN ISO 13849. This controller has two microcontrollers, one for standard function and the other for real time diagnostic via the cross communication, it include various functionalities like digital input, digital output, analogue input and PWM output. The embedded software is divided into two parts: safety related part and non-safety related part. These two parts are totally isolated to make sure they will not affect each other. This will protect the operators and vehicles form damage because of lack of practical experience or program fleet.
