The article touches upon the issues of the improvement of research methodology and reliability assessment of roads at engineering design and project documentation development stages. As a result of the study, the analytical expressions are obtained in order to improve the research methodology and assess the reliability of roads at the stages of the implementation of engineering project and the development of project documentation, using correcting coefficients, taking into account random errors in the numerical values of constituent quantities in the analytical expressions, which are functions of independent random arguments that determine the impact on these components of the magnitude of random weather and climate factors and conditions of vehicle movement during the operation of roads, as well as some corrections for non-linearity and the probabilistic dependence of these components in these analytical expressions. These analytical relations also take into account the obtained design estimates of the reliability of roads using statistical modeling procedures for calculating the reliability indicators of a specific category of road in a one-dimensional setting. In this work, the authors propose the use of a new probabilistic - statistical approach to the assessment of the reliability of roads, taking into account the risk of destruction of road structure during its usage. The results of the study allow concluding that the main provisions for the improvement of the research methodology and assessment of the reliability of roads at the stages of the implementation of their engineering design and the development of project documentation make a significant contribution. These provisions will contribute to a significant adjustment of design indicators of roads in the direction of their significant improvement.
