The paper studies the influence of adding an aerated autoclaved concrete (AAC) masonry walls story above a reinforced concrete structure of a high building. This structure is situated in a high seismic area (0.30 g , where g is the gravity acceleration) in Bucharest, Romania. The new story will be lightweight because of the AAC. It is necessary to establish if the existing structure can bare the new story gravity loads and to determine the new building’s seismic behaviour. It is also determined if the new AAC masonry walls can bare the seismic loads they are to be subjected to. Both elastic and plastic analysis are present in the study.
