The possibilities of new construction in the center of Saint Petersburg are quite limited by the requirements for preserving the historical center and by the height restrictions, so the construction of underground space is of great importance for the developing city. Investors are ready to deepen basements and to excavate foundation pits in the courtyards of existing buildings to increase usable space, but before starting such works, a number of compensatory measures are required, one of which is strengthening of foundation bed and foundation body of affected buildings.
