Axiomatic Design (AD) is a general-purpose design theory developed by Nam P. Suh and widely diffused in 1990 by his book “The Principles of Design”. Axiomatic Design provides sound science-based criteria to support decision-making within all the steps of the design process. More than just a new design theory, Axiomatic Design implements a unique reasoning framework that allows early rejecting "bad" design solutions, thus helping creative designers rapidly focusing feasible design solutions. Ever since its disclosure, AD is being adopted as a teaching and a working tool. Since 2000, researchers and engineers start to meet in an international conference to present the latest theoretical developments and examples of application in various areas of engineering. This forum is named International Conference on Axiomatic Design (ICAD) and had its first edition at MIT, Massachusetts, USA in 2000. Since then, it has been held annually or biennially. 13 ICADs have already took place in several countries, namely Australia, China, Iceland, Italy, Korea, Portugal, Romania, and USA. List of Honorary Chairs, Conference Chair, Conference Co-chairs, Local Organising Committee, Scientific Committee are available in this pdf.
