The article outlines the basic principles of the safety management system for buildings and structures, the basis of which is monitoring the technical condition of building structures. The questions of ensuring the structural safety of buildings and people inside are considered. It is proposed as a solution to the problem of timely prevention of accidents and catastrophes of building structures to develop a unified system for managing the safety of buildings and structures and methods for predicting their service life. The solution of a system of equations expressing the state of structural elements of a building or structure separately is given. The advantages and disadvantages of existing methods for predicting the technical condition of each group of structural elements are examined: statistical, deterministic, physical-statistical (combined) and expert.
