The paper presents a sketch of design recommendations and numerical simulations of stress distributions in perforated double-tapered beams made of glued laminated timber, taking into account the reinforcement used. Conscious design requires, according to the authors opinion, calculations performed using the finite element method. The analysis presented in the paper concerns three possible positions of the opening in the apex zone. It is recommended to position the opening halfway up, as it causes the least stress disturbance in the beams. Bottom position is definitely not recommended, as stress disturbances are large and cannot be levelled with transverse reinforcement. Reinforcement allows for the reduction of stresses in the range from several to several dozen percent.
