Binahong is a plant native to Southern America and has been globally distributed through Australia, Africa, USA, New Zealand, and Asia. In Indonesia, it is commonly used as traditional medicine. This paper provides a review addressing functional properties of binahong. Based on the literature studies that have been carried out on several scientific journals, binahong possess functional properties such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, antihyperlipidemic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-obesity, and antidiabetic. Phytochemical screening results from binahong showed alkaloids, flavonoids, triterpenoid, steroid, phenolic acid, glycoside, tannin, and saponin content.
