Preface

Organized by Beijing Jiaotong University (Beijing, China), the 2021 2nd International Symposium on Water, Ecology and Environment (ISWEE 2021) was held successfully online via VooV Meeting during October 15-18, 2021. ISWEE 2021 was primarily scheduled to be held on site in Beijing, China. However, considering the situation of COVID-19, it changed to virtual model. The technical program comprised one plenary session with 5 plenary speeches (40 minutes for each including 3-5 minutes of Q&A), 6 parallel oral sessions including 16 invited speeches (25 minutes for each including 3-5 minutes of Q&A) and 51 online live presentations (15 minutes for each including 3-5 minutes of Q&A), 31 pre-recorded video presentations (15-20 minutes for each) and 7 e-poster presentations. Water, ecology and environment are key elements guaranteeing the sustainability of societies. The ISWEE conference series aims to provide an academic platform for researchers and scholars to present and discuss their latest findings about water resource and environment. ISWEE 2021 gathered over 116 participants from 35 different countries and areas. The main subjects of the conference were water resources and hydrology, water and wastewater treatment, climate change and ecology, sustainable cities and society, environmental pollution and protection. This volume records the proceedings of ISWEE 2021 and contains 28 manuscripts that in accordance with the Journal’s Peer Review Policy were strictly selected based on originality, significance, relevance and contribution to the area after being peer-reviewed.
