The relevance of mechanization of various levels in carrying out planned thinning for forest areas of various types is shown. An explanation is proposed for the increased destructive effect on the soil, exerted by the propeller of a caterpillar tractor, containing tracks connected by hinges of a sequential type. The ways of reducing the peak loads under the tracks of commercially available tractors are proposed in order to reduce the destructive effect on the support base during the operation of the machine when carrying out planned works in the organization of rational forest management.
