The article presents the results of the analysis of the chemical composition of bed loads (layer of 0–1 cm) entering through streams in gullies from the limits of the Saratov city to the Volgograd Reservoir. The content of six heavy metals (Ni, Cu, Cd, Cr, Pb, Zn) having the property of accumulation and high toxicity were analysed. The most polluted sediments are found in gully systems, the drainage basins of which are located in industrial zones. The results demonstrate that in the absence of surface runoff treatment systems contaminated waters as well as soils enter water bodies from urbanized areas.
