Cellulose nitrate is the main component of pyroxylin powder. Due to the large quantities of the released obsolete pyroxylin powders it becomes necessary to recover them. In this work, we studied the possibility of chemical modification of cellulose nitrate extracted from outdated pyroxylin powder as a rubber plasticizer in standard elastomeric compositions based on butyl rubber.
