Environmental literacy is a person’s ability to understand and interpret environmental conditions. Based on the understanding and interpretation, the person can decide to maintain, restore, and improve environmental conditions. The goal of environmental literacy is to develop a generation having awareness of and care about the environment, knowledge, skills, attitudes, motivation, and commitment to work individually and collectively to find solutions to environmental problems. This important ability needs to be instilled from an early age because character education in children is long term. This study research uses the literature review method with data collected from books, official reports, organizational websites, and research reports published in national and international online journals. This study aims to examine and describe the steps in instilling early literacy in learning activities in Kindergarten using Kamishibai as learning media. The results of this literature analysis show that instilling environmental literacy using Kamishibai can be integrated in the 2013 Curriculum and can foster students’ awareness of their environment.
