The article is devoted to the history of church construction evolution in Eastern Siberia during its fledging years. It provides specific characteristics of the church development policy in the period under review. It is shown contribution of the clergy and especially the Irkutsk bishops to this process. There are presented the main architectural styles that prevailed in the construction of temples in Eastern Siberia in the 17th to the first half of the 19th century, organizational and financial aspects of church construction and its role and place in the cultural development of the region and as a “cultural heritage”.
