Pitting corrosion occurs easily in metal pipelines containing corrosive media, which leads to premature failure of pipelines, oil, gas and water leakage, and increases the risk of environmental pollution. In this paper, the conditions of metal pitting, several nucleation mechanisms, growth and repassivation processes of metal metastable pitting are summarized. Corrosion electrochemical measurement technology can reflect the behavior characteristics of metal materials in the process of corrosion. The application of pitting of metal materials in the medium is introduced by using such electrochemical measurement techniques as polarization curve, electrochemical impedance spectrum, electrochemical noise and scanning electrochemical microscope.
