Integrated energy system can break the pattern of unconnected and independent between traditional energy systems, which is of great significance in realizing the integration of multiple energy sources and promoting the efficient utilization of energy. This paper first introduces the concept of integrated energy system, and then according to the characteristics of integrated energy system in planning, design and operation optimization, summarizes the three-level application scenarios applicable to different spatial scales, and introduces some typical application scenarios in detail. At the same time, according to the existing integrated energy system demonstration projects, the application theory of specific scenarios is extended. Finally, combined with the national conditions and energy development status of China, the problems and development direction of the future development of the integrated energy system are proposed, and some suggestions and ideas are given for the energy utilization and planning and design, so as to provide reference for the follow-up research.
