Several kinds of shear thickening materials, including shear thickening gel and shear thickening fluid, were prepared and tested. The same amount of these materials were poured into the shock absorber and the compression force and rebound force were compared with the shock absorber containing hydraulic oil. The result shows that the shear thickening gel can’t be used in hydraulic shock absorber due to the lack of liquidity, however, the energy consumption ability of the absorber containing shear thickening fluid can be increased significantly.
