This paper focuses on the general knowledge and basic use of timber based on the case study in United Kingdom. It is narrated from the whole life cycle of wood, from its cradle to death, including its growth, application, degradation, decay detection repairing methods and techniques, etc. The purpose of this paper is to provide guidance on the wider application of wood in architecture, especially on the conservation of historic buildings.
