Wetlands are facing two controversial directions recently (i.e., utilization VS conservation). Some wetlands are mistreated and neglected around the world as a result of urban development, farmland use, and energy production. In contrary, some wetlands are kept natural and strictly prohibited for any development efforts. Supporters of each side have equally strong arguments to proceed their views on wetlands, leading to elongate debate and uncertain future of wetlands. Present proceeding is mainly composed by articles from the 5 th International Symposium on Wetlands Environmental Management (ISWEM), an event regularly organized by Lambung Mangkurat University, Indonesia since 2013. The fifth ISWEM was attended by 170 people from five countries and had provided platform for knowledge changes between academia, policy maker, government, and business. The articles involved in this proceeding represent both views of utilization and conservation of wetlands. Editors are delighted to present this proceeding as a compilation of peer reviewed papers of 5 th ISWEM. We would like to express our gratitude to all parties who have sincerely supported and contributed to the preparation of this proceeding. We also would like to highly acknowledge the hard work and precious support from the contributing writer during the preparation of the manuscripts, revision, until the proofread steps. We belief that this proceeding will contribute to the future direction of wetlands management and may serve as a useful source of references for further studies.
