The ASEAN Fisheries Education Network or ASEAN-FEN is a team of university-based consortia representing fisheries and aquaculture - oriented institutions within Southeast Asian region. The main objective of ASEAN-FEN is to support and facilitate activities of educators, scientists, and responding to local, regional, national, and international issues on fisheries and aquaculture. Organizing the International Fishery Symposium (IFS) is one of major academic missions of ASEAN-FEN to serve as platform by bringing together those involve in fisheries and aquaculture. Since 2011, seven symposiums have been annually organized and hosted by different countries throughout the region. “Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture for the Benefits of Mankind” is the theme for the 8 th International Fishery Symposium 2018 (IFS 2018), hosted during 18-21 November 2018 in Hatyai, Thailand, to reflect sustainable development goals (SDG) of FAO and ensure sustainability of quality fish resources for future generation. It was jointly hosted by five leading universities in Thailand including Kasetsart University, Rajamangkala University of Technology, Burapha University, Thaksin University and Prince of Songkla University together with other ASEAN-FEN members as co-host. The symposium had brought together researchers, scholars, students, officials, private sectors and stakeholders to share and discuss their experiences and knowledge promoting sustainable exploitation, quality production and effective management of fisheries resources and products. The event is considered one of the largest conferences in Asian region dedicating to fisheries and aquaculture with than 550 participants throughout the world. Its outcome will contribute significantly to the sustainable management of world fisheries and aquaculture. We greatly acknowledge financial support from Prince of Songkla University, sponsors, members of ASEAN-FEN and participants who together make this conference a great success.
