Local scour is one of the main factors leading to the failure of bridge foundation. In this paper, the mechanism of local scour and various factors affecting local scour are expounded. Based on the erosion mechanism and influencing factors, several common calculating formulas and prediction methods based on calculation algorithm are analysed. Finally, the shortcomings of existing research are summarized and the possible future research directions are pointed out.
