In the article the authors examined the role of forecasting in the system of agricultural land use management. Particular attention was paid to the choice of a method for predicting agricultural land use. The classification of formalized methods of agricultural land use forecasting was highlighted, which include extrapolation and modeling methods. The authors examined the features of each forecasting method and the possibility of its use for predicting agricultural land use. The experience of forecasting agricultural land use in India is considered. The study was based on the work of Russian and foreign scientists like A.A. Varalamov, S.A. Galchenko, A. Pankrats, S. Makridakis and others.
