In the era of globalization, the role of the agricultural sector in an area faced with the demand for increased productivity and efficiency in order to be competitive in the domestic and international markets. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of the agricultural sector in improving regional competitiveness. The method used is a Klassen Typology approach. Klassen Typology Approach used to identify the position of agriculture sector of Madiun District in increasing the competitiveness of the region by considering the economic sector of Jawa Timur province as the reference area. The results of the research expected to be recommendations for the formulation of policies undertaken by the local government. The role of the agricultural sector in the context of strengthening regional competitiveness expected to increase locally-generated revenue (PAD) as well as to support and encourage the development of other sectors, and increase regional and national economic growth as to increase income per capita society.
