The heritage of Yogyakarta is always situated in a dynamic environment. The conflicting situation is reflected by the ideological tensions during the creation of historical object in the past and the use of heritage in the present day. This issue leads to the underrated appreciation for the historical meaning. This article reveals the ideological process in the creation of heritage object and the recognition of meaning in the present day. The study uses literature study and in-depth interview to reveal the past and currently perceived meaning. This study provides a basis for understanding the change of meaning in heritage discourse.
