The characteristic of changes in communities of benthic invertebrates and fish in a small watercourse as its salinisation is given. It is shown the Shannon diversity index and Balushkina chironomid index play the greatest value in assessing the effect of salinity on river communities. There was a violation of the structure of the fish population of the river, expressed in the complete disappearance of fish in the area of intensive receipt of highly mineralized waters.
