Different synthesis techniques for BaAl 2 S 4 have been described in literature. Conventionally thioaluminates (BaAl 2 S 4 ) were prepared by solid state reaction. BaAl 2 S 4 was prepared by using BaS and Al 2 S 3 in H 2 S atmosphere [1, 2]. Sulfurization reduction of multi component oxide precursor was used to prepare BaAl2S4 in CS 2 atmosphere at 1050°C. [2, 3]. Oh et al. [4] prepared MgAl 2 S 4 doped with Co 2+ by the chemical transport reaction method. All these methods require proper apparatus and they are difficult to handle. The synthesis method and photoluminescence properties of MgAl 2 S 4 :Eu2+ and BaAl 2 S 4 :Ce 3+ phosphors are reported. In this paper wet chemical co-precipitation method is described for synthesis of magnesium and barium aluminates. BaAl 2 S 4 and MgAl 2 S 4 phosphors doped with Eu 2+ and Ce 3+ shows strong excitation in nUV region. This method is very simple and does not require H 2 S gas flow [2]. We successfully prepared MgAl 2 S 4 :Eu2+ and BaAl 2 S 4 :Ce 3+ powders by this method. MgAl 2 S 4 doped with Eu 2+ act as blue component in display application.
