The issues of smart cities standardization from the point of view of metrological assurance are considered. The identified standardization problems associated with the complexity of measuring the smart city subjective indicators are described. The arising difficulties in managing a smart city in order to achieve a positive synergistic effect are shown. A forecast was made regarding the possible smart cities standardization directions: metrological assurance, a smart city as a cyber-physical system, individual indicators.
