The transmission technology of offshore windfarms (OWFs) through VSC-HVDC system is developing rapidly. The impact factor of broadband oscillation is complex, it often occurs in VSC-HVDC and direct drive permanent magnet synchronous generator (DDPMSG). In this paper, based on short time fourier transform (STFT), factors that cause broadband oscillation are studied. Firstly, the primary structure of DDPMSG and VSC-HVDC is established. Then the correctness of small signal method (SSM) is verified. Based on eigenvalue analysis, instability caused by controlling parameter is analysed. Finally, time-frequency characteristic of oscillation waveforms in PSCAD is extracted using STFT, asynchronous characteristics of broadband oscillation is verified. It is of guiding significance, for the developing technology of offshore wind farm integrated into grid through VSC-HVDC system.
