Short output universal hash functions are widely used in manual authentication protocols. A digest function is one new universal hashing algorithm. The aim of this algorithm is to reduce the CPU processing time, and have the best proven bounds. However, typical manual authentication protocols using digest are based on asymmetric key algorithms, which is not suitable in many Internet of things scenarios. This paper thus proposes a series of digest protocols only use symmetric key algorithms.
