Big data and artificial intelligence (AI) have provided new methods and opportunities for many applications in geology. Nevertheless, big data and AI-based geoscience applications are still in their infancy, and the methods and objectives are still scattered, lacking a unified theoretical and application framework. This study reviews the application of big data and AI in geology and analyzes and summarizes the current status, development trends and existing problems of ongoing studies from the perspectives of geology. This study can provide a reference for the future research and development of the application of big data and AI in the field of geology.
